A blog by Paul Pavlinovich covering his learning journey as a photographer designed to pass information to others on similar journeys, perhaps to avoid his mistakes.

Going on a trip? What's in the bag.
Going on a trip? What's in the bag.
Loupe and sensor pen and rocket blower to get rid of dust bunnies.
Big battery bank for long time-lapse with the little blue dummy battery.
Four charged batteries and charger (Oly he be hungry).
256gb of cards (note no computer I shoot jpeg+raw so that let's me share via phone sooc). Real processing is done at home. Anything really important I'll back up to my tablet.
Oly om-d em1 micro four thirds mirror less beastie.
Bunch of filters including polariser (both linear and circular) 3 stop granduated neutral density. Four and fifteen stop black glass. Hitech and Cokin filter holders.
Remote in case phone dies and can't use oi.share app to control the camera.
40-150 f/2.8 zoom, distant things, big macro and crowds
12-40 f/2.8 zoom, general and street
8-14 f/2.8 zoom, architecture and landscape
45 f/1.8 prime, portrait and street Noir (because it's bright)
7.5mm f/3.5 fish, architecture and fun
60mm f/2.8 macro, for the little
Lenskirt for shooting through plane windows (ever noticed how the plane cabin crew never ask you to turn off cameras?)
All this fits in my carry on and leaves enough weight and room for a phone, tablet, book, neck pillow, passport, pens, noise cancelling headphones and a (empty) water bottle. When I shot canon I took more or less the same kit but had to hope no one checked because my carry on was usually about 20kg but now I actually fit in the 7kg limit. I can even squeeze in more if I carry the camera separately as most airlines allow.
